The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services today welcomed the appointment of the new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Adv Shaun Kevin Abrahams.
Dr Mathole Motshekga, Committee Chairperson, said the appointment of Adv Abrahams will bring back the much-needed stability to the National Prosecuting Authority and further strengthen and enhance its work.
President Jacob Zuma today announced the appointment of Adv Abrahams, with immediate effect.
Dr Motshekga said given the numerous years of experience in the prosecuting service, Adv Abrahams is adequately qualified and experienced to hold this office. “The swiftness of the appointment ensures that there will be no leadership vacuum at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“The Committee wishes the new NDPP well and assures him of the support of the Committee in making the NPA more effective,” said Dr Motshekga.
