Parliament notes Court ruling on SABC CEO's suspension

The Portfolio Committee on Communications has noted a ruling by the Western Cape High Court to order the suspension of the Chief Operating Officer of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Following application by the Democratic Alliance to ask the court to make a ruling regarding the remedial actions contained in the Public Protector’s report titled “When Governance and Ethics Fail”, Judge Ashton Schippers ruled that Mr Motsoeneng be suspended for 60 days with immediate effect pending a disciplinary hearing.

“The Committee will await due process to unfold before seeking update from the SABC board and the Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Mthambi, considering that the court has granted Mr Motsoeneng leave to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court of Appeal,” said Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee Chairperson.
