Ad Hoc Committee on Gender Equality develops criteria for shortlisting candidates for CGE

The Ad Hoc Committee to identify suitable candidates for the filling of vacancies at the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) met to deliberate on the criteria that will be used for the shortlisting of candidates.

The committee received two presentations on the selection and nomination guidelines for candidates for the positions of commissioners in the CGE.

During the presentation, the committee was informed that the advertisement did not specify minimum educational qualifications, therefore the criterion used by the committee was informed by the advert publicised.

The committee said it will consider and prioritise people living with disabilities, provinces will be considered, race, gender, age, experience, gender activists, South African citizens will be looked into. The issue of criminal offense will be looked at on a case by case basis.

People who were not performing in Chapter Nine institutions will not be considered. The committee said it wants people who have a solid track record. Candidates who have brought organisations into disrepute will not be considered, and those who have been found to be corrupt will not be shortlisted.

The committee agreed that 24 candidates will be shortlisted.

The committee will be considering a total number 88 resumes. The committee will recommend names for filling eight vacancies.
