Ad Hoc Committee adopts report
The Ad Hoc Committee on Police Minister’s Nkandla report has today adopted its report which will be tabled in the National Assembly (NA) this Friday, 7 August 2015.
The report can only be deliberated upon in the National Assembly once the programming committee has factored this into the NA’s programme.
On Wednesday, Committee members from all parties represented on the Ad Hoc Committee were given an opportunity to submit their proposed findings and recommendations by no later than 8am today and this was complied with.
Committee members found, among other things, that there was gross exaggeration of the scope, scale and cost of the Nkandla project and South Africans were misled about the opulence of the private residence of the President.
The report contains the following recommendations:
1. The Executive ensure that all necessary steps are undertaken to ensure that the safety of the Head of State and his family is not compromised
2. The Portfolio Committees of Public Works, Police and the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence must ensure the continuous monitoring of corrective actions to be taken by relevant National departments
3. That the relevant departments and law enforcement authorities ensure the expeditious conclusion of civil, criminal and disciplinary matters
4. The Report of the Police Minister be adopted
5. The Report of the Public Works be adopted.
