The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs today unanimously adopted the Local Government: Municipal Electoral Amendment Bill. This paves the way for the Bill to be forwarded for consideration and approval by the National Assembly.
The Bill seeks to amend provisions relating to the nomination of candidates, to provide for different modalities for payment of electoral deposits, to provide for the electronic submission of candidates nomination documents, to provide for notification of interested parties where a candidate has been nominated by more than one person, and clarify the circumstances in which new ballot papers may be issued to voters.
The Committee will recommend that the National Assembly adopts the Bill.
