Overflowing dams and raised water levels

The Department of Water Affairs in the Western Cape advises that all dams in the region are spilling, and rivers are at high levels, due to persistent rain. Weather services indicate the rain will be clearing over the weekend, and the situation will be improving.

The department can confirm that Berg River levels in the Paarl area are at lower levels than last week peak flow and is contained within its river banks, and all river systems are being monitored and abating from recent higher flows. As previously advised, members of the public taking part in any water related outdoor activities and recreational activities must take precautionary measures due to potential flooding risks.

Members of the public are urged to refrain from utilizing low-level bridges, crossing rivers and water bodies in mainly rural areas which are prone to flooding. Water is life,  respect it, conserve it, and enjoy it,  water can be distructive when precautions are not exercised.
