Operation Sukuma Sakhe brings hope to communities in eNdumeni

Intervention by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has brought hope to residents of Ward 5, in eNdumeni Local Municipality. Residents of this area have been facing a myriad service delivery challenges, relating to the delivery of water and electrification.

According to the eNdumeni council, residents of this community had to be stopped from using a local borehole, when engineers discovered that the water stood a risk of being contaminated by Manganese.

As a temporary measure the community was then requested to use Jojo tanks supplied by the Municipality. These tanks however were failing to meet the demand of the community. During a meeting with Dube-Ncube, the Community expressed concern over electricity, as there had not been any significant steps taken by the Municipality to address this problem.

This concern was however allayed, during the same meeting when the MEC requested the eNdumeni Mayor Cllr TP Mahaye, to provide answers to the concerns expressed by the residents. In his response, the Mayor, showed the concerned residents documents pertaining to a tender that was advertised by the municipality recently requesting service providers who will work with the Municipality and Eskom for the installation of electricity in the area. These news brought joy to the community members.

During the meeting Dube-Ncube also instructed present officials to provide feedback, on concerns raised by the community. In regards to the issue of water, as the community has expressed concern at the lack of the availability of water, the Deputy Municipal Manager for uMzinyathi, informed the community about plans that are at an advanced stage to put water into the community.

This was also re-iterated by the service provider that had come to the community earlier to inspect, to commence with the construction and installation of proper pipes that will bring water to this community.

In her address to the community, Dube-Ncube, called on the community to work together with the Municipality so that service delivery will not be hindered.
