One passenger dies in North West road accidents

A passenger died in an accident involving two vehicles on the Majakaneng-N4 over bridge outside Brits on Tuesday afternoon. It is alleged that the Nissan 1400 bakkie in which the deceased was a passenger had entered the road in an unsafe manner and was hit from the side by a Toyota bakkie.

The driver of the Nissan bakkie was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital. Seven road accidents have thus far been reported in the North West province since Monday. Three of these accidents caused only damage to the motor vehicles involved, slight injuries were reported in three accidents.

Two people were slightly injured in a collision between a Mazda 323 sedan and a GWM bakkie that occurred at around 01h30 prior the Mexico-Uruguay match hosted at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Tuesday. The accident occurred between the Rietvlei R24-Western bypass park-and-ride intersection near Phokeng in Rustenburg.

Although routes to the stadium were under pressure as was the case for all matches, minimal congestion was experienced during transportation of the over 33 400 spectators to and from the stadium. Most vehicles cleared park-and-rides within 90 minutes after the match.
