Office of the Chief Justice on shortlisted candidates for the Electoral Commission vacancies

During the week of 04 to 09 March 2018, the Office of the Chief Justice published notices in the media calling for nominations of interested persons to fill three vacancies in the Electoral Commission. The closing date for submission of nominations was set for 31 March 2018. On 15 May 2018, a Panel chaired by the Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa, comprising of the Public Protector, the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality and a Commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission, established in terms of section 6 of the Electoral Commission Act, 1996, met and compiled a short list of candidates to be interviewed at its sitting to be held at the headquarters of the Office of the Chief Justice during the week of 25 to 29 June 2018. The following candidates are on the short list:

8. Mr Landiwe Jackie Mahlangu;
9. Ms Nomonde Tantaswa Mapetla;
10. Dr Nomsa Praisy Masuku;
11. Mr Jabulani Christopher Mepha;
12. Mr Mosotho Simon Moepya;
13. s Lindiwe Faith Mokate;
14. Ms Bernedette Muthien;
15. Adv Lufuno Tokyo Nevondwe;
16. Ms Nomfundo Ntloko-Gobodo;
17. Mr Nkosikhulule Xhawulengweni  Nyembezi;
18. Ms Mmatlou Hellen Phaleng-Podile;

The shortlisted candidates will be notified of the exact date and time for the interviews in due course.

In recognition of the principles of transparency and openness, the Panel has resolved to allow any interested person to comment on the suitability or otherwise of the candidates that have been placed on the shortlist. It would be appreciated if such comments could reach the Office of the Chief Justice by no later than 11 June 2018.
