NYDA urges 2013 matric class to strive for excellence

With the 2013 matric exams officially underway, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) urges the 2013 matric class to strive for nothing less than excellence across all subjects. The class of 2013 can be the best yet if only they can put in more dedication and focus and strive for excellence.

“We want to encourage matriculants to obtain as many distinctions as possible in these exams and be able to acquire university entry. They must settle for nothing less than the best,” says NYDA Chairperson Yerhsen Pillay.

"They must know that a world of opportunity awaits should they achieve excellent results in these exams. There are a multitude of bursaries and scholarships for top performers and every matriculant has the potential to be a top performer. Therefore they must do us proud by starting now to cultivate the much needed culture of excellence in Education. This 2013 matric class must set the standards of excellence for the future,” says Pillay.

The NYDA as part of its focus on education has set up a Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund for academically deserving young people to have an opportunity to further their studies. “We hope that the class of 2013 will be able to access this scholarship fund by producing excellent results in these exams,” says Pillay.

The NYDA has invested R10 million into the Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund and the National Skills Fund has contributed a further R10 million for top performers in scarce and critical skills.
