NYDA supports President Awards for Youth Empowerment with R2.3 million

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is proud to have supported the Presidents Awards for Youth Empowerment with an amount of R2.3 million. The awards took place today in Cape Town where President Jacob Zuma handed over a number of awards to young people as part of their involvement in various empowerment projects. The Awards is a programme which seeks to encourage young people to chart their own path of self-discovery and growth.

“As the NYDA we are proud to be associated with the Presidents Awards for Youth Empowerment that continues to assist young people in 144 different countries. We will continue to support the initiative as part of our efforts aimed at facilitating youth development with all sectors of society. The beneficiaries of this project are truly inspirational,” says NYDA Chairperson Yershen Pillay.

As part of the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment’s 30th anniversary this year, three regional Youth Dialogues and Action workshops were held with the support of the NYDA, the Department of Arts and Culture and Brand South Africa. Part of each workshop involved participants being informed about the country’s National Development Plan which was launched last year and how as young people can help realise the Plan’s Vision 2030. The Awards participants have been involved in a number of projects including: Eastern Cape participants involved in a Pre-School Literacy Project; Western Cape participants in a clothing project for those in need; and Gauteng participants were involved in a desk refurbishing project for a needy school.
