NYDA confident that youth will go out and register to vote this weekend

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has noted reports indicating that millions of young people are still not registered to vote for the upcoming 2014 general elections. “Young South Africans are the bedrock of our democracy as they constitute the largest segment of our population. It is therefore important that we pull together as one and encourage the youth  of South Africa to register and vote,” says NYDA Chairperson Yershen Pillay.

“With the voter registration weekend upon us, we must speak in one voice to encourage all youth who are eligible to register and vote. Parents must ensure that they take their children along to the registration points and ensure that they register. We are confident that most if not all youth will make time to register and take advantage of their democratic right to vote. The power is in youth hands for this election!" he says.

The NYDA has initiated efforts to encourage the youth of South Africa to register on the 9th and 10th November 2013 in order to vote in the upcoming elections. “We view this as important in ensuring a vibrant and inclusive democracy,” says Pillay. “We once more call on all young South Africans who are eligible to vote, to stand up and take the first step in shaping their future by registering to vote this coming weekend,” he concludes.
