North West traffic officers arrest motorist with 23 bags of dagga

A 28 years old man is expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court on Monday morning after he was arrested for being in possession of dagga with a street value of over R340 000. The suspect was arrested by North West Public Safety traffic officers outside Potchefstroom on Sunday evening.

It is alleged that suspect was transporting 23 bags of dagga in a Toyota bakkie from Ficksburg to Soweto when he was pulled over for driving with park lights by three traffic officers who were on patrol duty at around 19h00.

Upon further investigation, the traffic officers realised that the Gauteng license disc on the vehicle did not correspond with the Free State number plates displayed on the vehicle. The suspect who could not produce a driver license was immediately arrested and Potchefstroom police summoned to the scene.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa commends the traffic officers for their vigilance and for the arrest of the suspect.
