Communities requests SCOPA to give more time for their inputs On D-Account

The Communities of Bapo ba Mogale, Bakwena ba Mogopa and Bakubung ba Ratheo has requested Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) give them more time to prepare their inputs on the D-Account.

This came after the three administrators with the exception of one administrator did not attend the meeting, where they were requested to present a detailed report on the accounts of the tribal authorities. The Bapo ba Mogale administrator, Mr Mzamani Mdaka also said he could not present because the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs did not inform him that he what he was supposed to make a presentation on how they have been managing the accounts.

The Accountant General from the Department of Finance, Mr. Geo Paul said the department is currently busy with the preparations of the financial statements of the accounts of Tribal Authorities under the D-Account so that they can be properly audited.

SCOPA Chairperson, Hon. Hlomane Chauke said the Committee will call a meeting with the relevant stakeholders including the communities, Office of the Premier, the Department of Finance and the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs for all tribal communities affected by the D-Account to make inputs before a resolution on the matter can be table before the Provincial Legislature.

“We want to check how far Premier Thandi Modise is with her plans of meeting the two departments involved in the management of the D-Account to fully account as it became clear in the previous meeting that the information that they were giving the Premier was not a true reflection of the engagement they had with the Committee.

“We are also happy that for the first time since the intervention of the Committee, there is stability within the tribal communities and hope that they can now focus on the development of their respective,” said Hon. Chauke.
