North West Government on service delivery protests in Delareyville

Mayor of Tswaing restores calm in the municipality

Mayor of Tswaing Local Municipality Ms Dimakatso Malwane has successfully intervened in Delareyville following incidents of violent service delivery protests which saw a disruption of services in the municipality and government departments.

This follows a meeting that took place between Malwane and the leadership of residents which took place in Delareyville yesterday.

In the late afternoon of yesterday groups of residents could be seen in the streets of Delareyville cleaning the streets and removing stones from roads.

“We held a meeting with mayor Malwane and she has reassured us that Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality would be bringing us water tankers to alleviate the current shortage of water.” Said Motlogelwa  who is a local resident.

Key to the concerns of residents has been shortage of water as a result of cables that have been stolen in the area.

“I held a successful meeting with the leadership of residents and they have agreed that learners would be allowed to attend classes, municipal and government offices would reopen for the public on Monday 23 October 2017.” Malwane said.

Premier SOR Mahumapelo has commended the municipality and residents for engaging in productive discussions that have restored calm and stability in the area.

He has called on the SAPS to investigate water cable theft to ensure the culprits are apprehended and brought to book as residents have been left stranded as a result of their criminal acts.

Tswaing Local Municipality and the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements will continue to work hard to ensure that all the concerns of residents are resolved and that the provision of services is optimally strengthened.
