North West community builder to be awarded

Community projects that continue to make a difference in the lives of ordinary people in the North West will be rewarded this coming Friday.

Provincial MEC for Health and Social Development, Rebecca Kasienyane will award Community Builder of the Year during a gala dinner to be held in Taung, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.

Recognition will be awarded in two categories which are social welfare and poverty eradication. Two projects from each district will compete in each category. Districts in question are Ngaka Modiri Molema, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Bojanala and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati.

Each category has been divided into previously funded by government and those that never received funding (unfunded) from government sub categories.

The unfunded category carries a price tag of R120 000, 00 with a winner receiving R50 000,00. First runner up receives R40 000, 00 with second runner up getting R20 000, 00. Projects competing under the previously funded sub category will share a total price money of R60 000.The winner in this sub category will receive R30 000, 00 while first runner up take home R20 000, 00. Second runner up will receive the balance.

Community Builder of the Year concept acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of diverse individuals, groups and institutions towards the upliftment of South African communities. It also acknowledges community workers for their outstanding work and sacrifice, irrespective of race, colour or creed, in the quest to build a South Africa that truly belongs to all.

Recognition will be awarded to organisations and individuals that made a difference in child and family care, HIV and AIDS, community based care, youth development, and people with disability.

The media is therefore invited to attend the gala dinner scheduled to start at 17h00 at Mmabana Taung.
