New Moses Kotane hospital complete and ready for 2010 FIFA World Cup

The North West province's 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup medical preparations received a major boost with a completion of Moses Kotane hospital. The hospital readiness was the only concern that the late Health Deputy Minister Dr Molefi Sefularo registered during his readiness inspection in the province on February 2010.

"The province is on track but we are concerned about the delay in completion of newly constructed 200 bed Moses Kotane hospital. Although the construction of the building is 90 percent complete and to be handed over to the department on 28 February, there are tight deadlines to be observed for procurement and installation of necessary medical equipment, as the hospital should be ready by end of April," Dr Sefularo said after inspection.

The hospital, together with Job Shimankane Tabane hospital in Rustenburg is health facilities to be used during a month long football tournament.
Situated in Ledig Village near Rustenburg the hospital will serve as a referral hospital for 45 clinics and four health centers of the Moses Kotane sub-district.

Services which were rendered at George Stegmann hospital will now relocate to the newly built hospital. Infrastructure at George Stegmann hospital will undergo refurbishment and upon completion will now serve as a community health centre and a training centre for nursing students from Mmabatho College of Nursing.

Over and above, the services that are being offered at George Stegmann hospital, Moses Kotane has a fully fledged Casualty and Emergency unit, high care (adult and neonatal), clinical workshop, Psychiatric unit, six operating theatres and private ward. The level of service will be improved and the hospital will offer enhanced patient care environment.

Wards at the new hospital are built and designed in such a way that they permit installation of new technological equipment e.g. digital machines in radiological unit casualty and high care. The hospital boosts a helipad that would make it easier for casualties to be air lifted to other Health Institutions. It is also equipped with 39 different units of residential block for employees.

At Job Shimankane Tabane hospital renovations into accident and emergency with six resuscitation beds were completed late last year. 12 beds for P2 patients, six beds in short stay ward, five obstetrics and gynaecology beds, five paediatrics and one isolation beds have been organised. Four treatment areas, triage area, counselling, administration and six theatres are functional.
