Nelson Mandela Metro hands over mattresses and blankets to Early Childhood Development centres

Social Development and Special Programmes in Nelson Mandela Metro identified 5 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres with Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) that still needs funding the most. These ECD centres are in Motherwell and New Brighton Areas; they are in a very poor state that no child should be learning under. The process of registering these crèches has already begun, and will start getting their funds by the end of this year.

Nelson Mandela Metro partnered with Bantu Church of Christ bought mattresses and blankets for the children in these crèches; 20 matresses and 20 blankets were handed over to Lukhanyiselo Day Care in New Brighton.

“Early Childhood Development is one of the departments priorities; laying a good foundation in a child’s development is very important in our society. We need to take care of our children at a very early stage, that way we are making sure of a brighter future for them” District Manager Mr Ngqabayi said.

Bishop Bophani of Bantu Church of Christ said she’s very excited that this day has finally come. “I went knocking to many doors to ask for help for the crèches in my community, finally I received a positive answer from Social Development and Special Programmes, this project is very close to my heart. Thank you to the department for responding so soon to my request” she said.
