Eastern Cape Premier, Ms Noxolo Kiviet and 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Danny Jordan concurred with each other, that the Nelson Mandela Bay Multipurpose Stadium is the best in the world. The two were addressing about 18 000 people who attended the open day event at the newly built stadium. The event had been organised by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality to afford ordinary people of the province an opportunity to be the first people to sit in the new stadium.
Premier Kiviet said: As government we thank all the role players who have made this stadium a landmark that the whole world will be proud off. Indeed, this stadium stands out as one of the most priced legacies that our future generations will be proud of.
LOC CEO, Danny Jordan said the stadium has changed the face of the Nelson Mandela Metro. I have been to Rome to watch the UEFA Champions League Final and that stadium is no match for the Nelson Mandela Bay Multipurpose Stadium, he said to loud applause.
During the construction of the stadium, 7 000 people were employed and not a single loss of life or injury occurred on site.
