The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Mr Mxolisi Nxasana attends Diepsloot case

The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Mr Mxolisi Nxasana undertook a visit to the Pretoria Magistrate Court today, for the hearing on the Diepsloot case.

When the NDPP assumed office earlier last month, he made a commitment to the prosecutors to support them in the important work they do. His appearance today is part of a series of a long term plan to show support and solidarity to our prosecutors who work hard under very difficult conditions.

Further, the visit is a gesture of sympathy to the family and friends of the two victims, Yonelisa and Zandile Mali. He is very concerned about the continuing trend of rapes and murders of innocent children across the country. He is of the view that it is a national crisis that needs intervention at the highest levels in our society.

The National Director had a brief discussion with the prosecution team with the view to get some insight into the status of the case and is satisfied that the prosecution team is doing the best to get justice for these innocent souls whose lives were cut short in such a gruesome manner.

Charges have been withdrawn against four of the accused, only accused 5 (prime suspect) remains to face the charges. The reasons are that there is no direct or indirect evidence linking them to the offence. Case postponed to 27th November 2013 for further investigation.
