Mr T T Mboweni, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, on the announcement of a newly appointed Deputy Governor.

The President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma has informed me, that he has appointed Mr Daniel Mminele as Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank for a period of five years, effective from 1 July 2009.

I am delighted by this appointment. I would like to welcome Mr Mminele’s appointment as deputy governor to the South African Reserve Bank and we wish him a fruitful, successful and rewarding period in his new responsibilities.

Mr Mminele joins the South African Reserve Bank’s two other Deputy Governors, Dr Xolile Guma and Dr Renosi Mokate.

In accordance with section four of the South African Reserve Bank Act, Act 90 of 1989, the governor and three Deputy Governors of the South African Reserve Bank are appointed by the president after consultation with the Minister of Finance and the Board of Directors of the South African Reserve Bank. Both the Minister of Finance and the board support this appointment.

The board of directors, management and staff of the South African Reserve Bank would like to welcome him and will afford him all the necessary support during his tenure.
