Mpumalanga Cooperative Governance warns residents of heavy rain fall

Residents warned to be on alert of heavy rain fall in Mpumalanga

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) in Mpumalanga would like to warn all residents of the province to be on alert of heavy rains that are predicted for Tuesday, 4 March until Friday, 7 March 2014. These heavy rains are expected over the South and Western Mpumalanga Highveld.

The department has instructed all 21 municipalities to be on full alert and on standby. The heavy rains could result in an increase of dam and river levels thus making small streams and rivers very dangerous. People are advised to move away from river banks and they must avoid crossing full rivers and over flowing bridges.

The department requests all communities to take precautions especially those who are staying in low-lying areas. All road users are urged to be extremely cautious on the roads as they will be wet and rocks might have fallen in some areas.

In case of any possible flooding residents are advised to call the Disaster Management Toll free number 0800 202 507.
