Moretele Municipality brings services closer to the people

Moretele Local Municipality in the Bojanala Platinum district has given true meaning to bringing government services closer to the people by turning their ward committee offices into information and service pay points.

The municipality has refurbished its 24 ward committee offices including Bakgatla-ba-Mocha tribal authority offices which are now used as information and service pay-points. Moretele local municipality which is predominately rural, has its head office located 18 kilometres north of Hammanskraal and is made up of 66 villages and community members previously had to travel to the municipal offices to obtain information related to government services.

According to the Speaker, Councillor Gladys Mboweni, the refurbished structures serve to bridge the service delivery gap between the municipality and its constituency as residents can access information related to government services conveniently in their various wards.

“People no longer have to travel long distances to the council offices to seek documents such as proof of residence and the buildings have even boosted the morale of our ward committee members as they now conduct meetings in decent structures,” said Mboweni.
