More explosives discovered at Beit Bridge

Police in Limpopo have impounded a bus travelling from Zimbabwe into South Africa after discovering another stash of explosives inside an overhead luggage compartment.

The stockpile of 13 blasting cartridges and 13 connectors cap fuses were uncovered during a routine search at Beit Bridge border post at approximately 1h30 this morning, Tuesday. No one has taken responsibility of the explosives, however, as routine all the passengers are currently being questioned whilst their luggage also going through a proper going-over.

The explosives are similar to those that were found in Elita Sibanda (23) possession last month. Sibanda with 26 plastic cartridges and 100 detonators while travelling in a bus from Zimbabwe to South Africa.

She has been charged for unauthorised importation, supply or possession of an explosive or incendiary device or part thereof and is due in the Musina Magistrates’ Court again on Wednesday, 20 November.

Meanwhile with the latest discovery, at this stage, not formal arrests have been carried out, but police are questioning several possible suspects, including a woman who was found in possession of a mining certificate.
