Mohono warns against selling or renting of Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Desbo Mohono, has warned beneficiaries against renting and selling their houses.

Addressing beneficiaries during the official handover of ten houses that were constructed during the Nelson Mandela week in Cokonyane, Taung; Mohono reiterated her department's resolve to ensure that everyone is the rightful owner of their house.

"Systems are in place to monitor illegal occupation, renting and selling of houses and we will act unapologetically should we find illegal occupant," she warns.

MEC Mohono said the department will align itself with President Zuma's call when he observed that government was chasing moving targets.

"This has to come to an abrupt end," said Mohono.

The construction of these ten houses started during the Nelson Mandela week by Members of the Executive Council (MECs), members of the provincial legislature (MPLs) and senior members of government.

The ten houses, which are meant for the poor, are also part of the commitment made by the MEC during her budget speech which was delivered in the North West provincial legislature in June.

The Department of Human Settlements used Mandela week to work with other sectors of society to help expand access to housing for people in rural areas.
