Mmabatho College of Nursing students refuse to meet department management

Students at the Mmabatho College of Nursing today returned back to the college as per agreement in the last meeting with the Learner Representative Council (LRC) only to continue to be disrespectful, and refuse to talk to the management.

Last week in a meeting with the department, the LRC agreed to inform students to get back to the college by today, 10 August 2010.

In the meeting the LRC's attention was brought to the fact that the court has ruled that students had breached the contract they have entered into with the department by engaging on strike action.

After the court ruling students indicated that they want to end the strike and to go back to class as instructed by the court.

It is on that basis that the decision was taken to meet with students today to discuss new terms and conditions for opening of the college. However, the students continued to be disrespectful, and refused to talk to the management.

The department is seriously concerned by the latest development and refusal to be cooperative by students. It must be understood that the department is providing financial aid to students, an opportunity that many young people of our country and province do not have.

In the light of the latest development, the department will once again call the LRC as representative of students into a meeting to further find ways of normalising the situation at the college.

The department remains committed to the culture of learning with a view to educate and produce future nurses.

It is only the Mmabatho College of Nursing that is affected.
