Minister Senzo Mchunu visits family of Rand Water executive following fatal shooting

The Ministry of Water and Sanitation is deeply saddened by the untimely, tragic, and brutal passing of Rand Water’s Chief Corporate Shared Services Officer, Mr Teboho Joala. Mr Joala lost his life during the shooting which occurred at the Zakarriya Park Hall on Monday, 29 January 2024.

Mr Joala joined Rand Water in 2019, as a General Manager: Communications and Stakeholders Management. Owing to his skills and capabilities, he was then appointed to his current position in July 2021.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Senzo Mchunu, Deputy Minister David Mahlobo as well as the Rand Water Board Chairperson, Mr Ramateu Monyokolo visited the Joala family, yesterday, 30 January 2024, to pay their respects.

Reflecting on the incident which claimed Mr Joala’s life and in conveying his condolences, Minister Mchunu said the following: “This savage and heartless incident is one which should not have occurred; not only has it claimed lives, but it has also traumatised young primary school learners so early on in the new academic year. As a Ministry, we are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Teboho was a dedicated individual, who still had a lot to offer – to the sector but also to the country through his social associations. As a Ministry, we offer our sincere condolences to the Joala family, and to the family that also lost their loved one. May Teboho Joala’s soul rest in peace.”
