Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister, Mr Pravin Gordhan extends his condolences to the families of the two people who tragically died because of the collapse of the foot bridge in Sandton in Johannesburg. Minister Gordhan also commended the City of Joburg Mayor, Mr Parks Tau and the Joburg team for the quick response into the incident.

The Minister says that “the way the City of Joburg has responded, it shows that we still have a well-run city and this has enhanced our reputation. What the world has seen is the humanity coming out. Reputation is built in a way that you responds and how you care for people in a particular environment, those who were involved in the accident and the thousands of people that use the road.

We have shown a great amount of efficiency and carefulness in a way that we have managed this incident.”

Minister Gordhan says government will await the results of various investigations to establish the root cause of the accident.
