The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa today commended the police team following an arrest of Radovan Krejcir last night.
The arrest is as a result of an investigation into an incident which occurred in June 2013. A case of kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was reported in the East Rand. Given the severity of the assault, the charge will be amended to attempted murder.
“We commend our team of investigators following this arrest. Contrary to what many perceived as reluctance on the part of the police to act around some of crimes where the suspect is alleged to be involved, particularly around the Bedfordview area, from our side we know that a lot was being done by the police.”
“The National Commissioner assembled a team of experienced investigators who followed each lead and gathered every piece of evidence so that by the time they effected an arrest, there would be a water tight case. Now that the matter is within the criminal justice system we will observe the developments but remain hopeful that justice will prevail at the end,” added the Minister.
“Police shall continue to work smart and hard, to ensure that they crumble crime syndicates. This augurs appropriately with our community-participation philosophy of a partnership between police and communities. Such cooperation will ensure that collectively, we remove from society those who think they can do wrongdoing without any consequence. South Africa is a democratic state where the rule of law applies. Any person, who defies these laws, will face the full might of the law.”
“We also need to send a message to the people of Gauteng and Bedfordview that we care and understand what they are going through. We will do all in our power to ensure that they are and feel safe,” concluded the Minister.
