Minister Tsenoli welcomes SIU probe

Lechesa Tsenoli, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has welcomed the President’s proclamation directing the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of maladministration in connection with the actions of some in the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

The Director-General of Cooperative Governance made this request to the Special Investigation Unit and as the law requires the President thankfully accepted this request. We look forward to a rigorous investigation that will enable the department to take legal action and institute other remedies as may be required,” said Minister Tsenoli.

“Corruption and maladministration set us back as a country. We recognise the need to address these serious allegations, so that the department can continue to provide leadership and set an example in good governance,” said Tsenoli.

The allegations to be investigated by the SIU relate to:

  • The appointment of a service provider to provide technical support and administrative services in respect of the Ward  Based Cooperatives Programme of COGTA.
  • Payments made by the department in a manner that was allegedly not fair, competitive, transparent, equitable or cost- effective; contrary to, among other things, legislation and policies.
