Minister Jackson Mthembu represents President Cyril Ramaphosa at Guinean Presidential Inauguration

The Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu represented President Cyril Ramaphosa at the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Guinea, held today, 15 December 2020, in Conakry, Republic of Guinea. 

The Republic of Guinea held its Presidential elections on 18 October 2020 wherein the National Electoral Commission (CENI) as well as the Guinean Constitutional Court declared President Alpha Condé winner by 59.5 % of the votes cast. 

South Africa and Guinea enjoy cordial bilateral relations, underpinned by strong historical and fraternal bonds dating back to the era of the liberation struggle. Since 1994, bilateral relations between the two countries have focused not only on political matters, but also increasingly on strengthening economic relations. 

The Minister expressed South Africa’s commitment to continue working with the Government and the people of the Republic of Guinea on issues of mutual interest. 

"The endeavours to resuscitate the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) between the two countries is indeed a step in the right direction.  

On behalf of President Ramaphosa, we congratulate President Condé on his successful election as President of the Republic of Guinea and further wish him a prosperous term in office,"  said Minister Mthembu.
