Minister congratulates Tshwane TV for acquiring broadcasting rights for limited over cricket series between Zimbabwe & New Zealand

Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi  has congratulated community broadcaster Tshwane TV for acquiring broadcasting rights for the ODI and T20 Cricket Series between Zimbabwe-New Zealand; 2015. The cricket series started this week in Zimbabwe.

“This is an important achievement for community television in South Africa. It is the first of its kind for a community based television station without encrypted signal, to be able to acquire broadcasting rights for an international sport event”.

The deal will see Tshwane Community Television, broadcasting the series until 2023.

“It is encouraging to see that the rights holders are not just selling the broadcast rights to only signal encrypted pay television stations. I hope this will serve as an encouragement for many community based television stations out there to note that  there is space to compete in the television market," said Muthambi.

Minister also congratulated the SABC Radio for acquiring broadcasting rights for Bangladesh-South Africa series, 2015.
