The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, sends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Professor Lungile Pepeta- a seasoned doctor and academic at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth.
Professor Lungile Pepeta, passed away on Friday due to COVID-19 related complications at a Port Elizabeth hospital.
At the time of his death, he was serving as the Executive Dean in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth.
“Professor Pepeta was renowned paediatric cardiologist and his death is a great loss to the Nelson Mandela University, the medical and health fraternity and South Africa in general,” said Minister Nzimande.
In the recent past Professor Pepeta was appointed as the Chairperson of the Council for Medical Schemes – the regulator of the medical schemes industry.
