Minister Bathabile Dlamini appoints Foster Care Committee

Ministerial Committee deployed in the Free State to determine the contributory factors to the challenges experienced within the foster care system

The Minister for Social Development Me. Bathabile Dlamini has appointed a Foster Care Committee which is deployed country wide. The committee will advise the Minister on measures that may be considered to improve the quality of Foster Care services.

In the Free State, Mangaung Metro has been selected by the Committee for sampling in order to identify such challenges. Seven (7) members of the Ministerial Committee have been deployed and will be working with officials from the Department Social Development and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) from the 12 October 2015 to 14 November 2015.

Information will be gathered through home visits to foster care beneficiaries, meetings with stakeholders, focus groups with Professionals dealing directly with foster care, interviews with children in foster care as well as foster care parents. Communities will also be invited to participate in community dialogues on issues regarding foster care in general.
