Minister Aaron Motsoaledi orders probe into conduct of two Mpumalanga doctors

The Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has this week ordered a probe into the conduct of two Mpumalanga doctors to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a teenage mother at Evander Hospital. The pair is alleged to have disregarded the protocols and clinical guidelines during the examination of a teen pregnant mother at the hospital a week ago.

“We regard the alleged conduct of this doctors as serious as they points to gross negligence and therefore an investigation must be launched to determine facts before an appropriate action is taken", Motsoaledi said.

In view of the gravity of the alleged acts of misconduct, on Monday ( July 6, 2015 ) the Mpumalanga Department of Health has served the pair with notice of intention to suspend them, affording them the opportunity to make representations within 24 hours as to why a precautionary suspension should not be implemented.

Subsequently, the pair is on Wednesday 8, July placed on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. The precautionary suspension is based on the seriousness of the allegations leveled against the two doctors and the department believes that their presence at work might jeopardize the probe into the alleged misconduct.
