Military Veterans on financial challenges faced in providing education support for 2019

Financial challenges faced by the Department of Military Veterans in providing education support for 2019

The Department of Military Veterans (DMV) would like to take this opportunity to inform all registered  veterans and their dependents that no new  applications for education support for the 2019 academic year will be accepted due to  financial constraints.  However, students and learners alike currently funded by the department will continue to receive financial support for the duration of their studies.

Following intense discussions and deliberations among the Department of Military Veterans, the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans, the South African National Military Veterans Association (SANMVA) and the Advisory Council, it was decided that DMV pull back on new applications until an economically viable solution is found. The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is engaging her counterparts in the Department of Higher Education & Training , Basic Education and National Treasury in an effort to find sustainable solutions to the challenge.

We appeal to everyone for patience, cooperation and understanding. The Department is working around the clock to improve the situation. The Department remains committed to providing education support to all qualifying military veterans and their dependents.

All military veterans who have enquiries are encouraged to be in contact with the department.
