Media release: MEC Norman Mokoena satisfied with progress of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality task team

The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena has expressed satisfaction with the progress being made by the task team that has been set up to deal with the issues that have besieged the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality.

"We are encouraged by the positive spirit shown by the community and representatives of the concerned group in dealing with the issues with the task team. We will create the space that they need to ensure that they have enough time and opportunity to deal with these issues. Once they have completed their task they will report back to the Premier and me, so that we are able to go back to the community as promised," said Mokoena.

He further added that government remains committed to dealing with all issues that are raised by the community and that it will work with the people to deal with the issues and ensure that quality services are delivered.

The task team was set up after Premier David Mabuza and MEC Mokoena visited the municipality and met with the community representatives to discuss the challenges in the area. The task team comprises of representatives from the Premiers Office, Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Ehlanzeni District Municipality, and Thaba Chweu Local Municipality. This task team is currently working in the municipality to deal with the challenges.
