Ladies and gentlemen of the media.
I wish to welcome you to this briefing that will outline our provincial plans on how best we can commemorate and celebrate the life and times of President Nelson Mandela.
Premier Chupu Mathabatha has determined that an inter-departmental team be setup so that we manage and coordinate better how we celebrate Madiba’s life in the province.
The team is composed of:
1. MEC Dikeledi Magadzi
2. MEC Dickson Masemola
3. MEC Joyce Mashamba
4. MEC Rudolph Phala
These Members of the Executive are supported by a Technical Team that is led by Acting Director General, Dr Phuti Pheme and is composed of all Heads of Department and support staff from the Premier’s Office and GCIS.
Our plan is that there should be no surface or ground or person in this province that will be left out in celebrating the life of a hero, President Nelson Mandela.
Our resolve is that there will be no second opportunity to do this, and therefore we need to afford everybody an opportunity to do just that.
Attached to the Media Statement you will find an outline of places, venues and times of where the Memorial Book or flowers ( bouquet) can be laid across the province.
It must be emphasised that the funeral on Sunday, 15 December 2013 in Qunu is a private family affair, so it will be useless for anybody to take pains to travel there. Besides, you will be fortunate to find any planes travelling down there, and getting accommodation would be a miracle. However in this province we have made provision for everbody from children to adults to enjoy seeing their hero being sent off.
I will now outline all venues and times leading to the provincial memorial service on Thursday at Peter Mokaba were we are expecting no less that 45 000 people from all over the province.
