MEC Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to families of taxi crash victims

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe sends his condolences to the families of nine people who died after the minibus they were traveling in lost control and overturned yesterday, 10 February 2015 on the D2740 Road between Seabe and Nokaneng.

Eight people including the driver were confirmed dead on the spot while one of the seven who were rushed to Mametlhake Hospital with serious injuries died in the hospital. Shongwe calls on motorists especially those of public transport to practice caution when driving because many lives are lost when a crash occurs. He added that it is the responsibility of taxi owners to ensure that their vehicles are in a good condition to be on the road and that their drivers are fit to drive.

“It is not the responsibility of government alone to fight road carnages, communities at large must join the fight against road carnages and be road ambassadors by reporting bad driving to authorities and also by obeying the rules of the road,” says Shongwe.

Meanwhile, the MEC also wishes a speedy recovery to the victims who were rushed to hospital.
