MEC Thandiswa Marawu on increase of vehicle license fees in April

Motor vehicle license fees to increase in April

Eastern Cape MEC for Transport Thandiswa Marawu has announced that vehicle license fees are set to increase by approximately 8.5% as from 1 April 2014.

The increase of licence fees is based on the average inflation of South Africa which is 5.86% and it is in line with the standardisation of motor licence fees across provinces where the Eastern Cape is closing the gap to the highest charging province.

The increase in the fees will range as follows:

• A truck of 3500kg will have to pay R1 746.00 per annum against  R1 608.00 in 2013.
• A truck or bus of 7000kg will have R8 304.00 per annum against R6 912.00 in the 2013 financial year.
• A Motor Vehicle with a Tare Weight of 1 751kg will have to pay R654.00 from 1 April 2014 instead of R600.00 which was the rate for 2012/13.
• A small vehicle with a Tare of between 1 001 and 1 250 kilograms will increase from R372 a year to R402.
• A medium-size vehicle with a Tare of between 2001 and 2 250 kilo-grams will cost R792 from April 1, an increase of R66.
• A vehicle with a Tare of between 3 001 and 3 250 will increase from R1 368 to R1 482, and for a vehicle with a Tare of between 4 001 and 4 250 by R180 from R2 148 to R2 328

MEC Marawu also added that it will cost a person with a 1 751kg vehicle approximately R1.79 per day to licence his vehicle to be used on any public road per year
