MEC opens library in Zintonga village

MEC for Human Settlements, Safety and Liaison, Helen Sauls-August handed over a school library to Zintonga Junior Secondary School in Port St Johns.

The school library, built in a village will provide rural school pupils, with a resource to improve their learning and improve matric performance of the rural school. The fully equipped library was sponsored as part of the 2013 Women’s Build Programme also held in PSJ during women’s month. The school library was sponsored by Everite.

The handover forms part of the Joe Slovo Month, which includes handover of houses, social amenities and visits to schools to motivate matric learners ahead of the final examinations throughout the province. This month she handed over a R2.4 million multi-purpose community center built by the department in Elliotdale.

“We are proud that the ANC government continues develop rural areas consistent with the lifting of rural development as priority in 2009. So far, the ANC government has approved a total of 1 250 (Tombo 200, Caguba 300, Ntafufu 350, Mdlankala 200 and Bomvini 200) subsidies to cater for beneficiaries in rural areas where in some projects the contractors are already on site working,” said MEC Helen Sauls-August at the handover.

In August, the department built 57 homes for destitute families in Port St Johns which were provided house furniture by the stakeholders of the department.
