MEC Norman Mokoena to sign delivery agreement for Outcome 9 with all executive mayors

Government has agreed on 12 outcomes as key focus areas of work between now and 2014. Each outcome has a delivery agreement which in most cases involves all spheres of government and a range of partners outside government. The delivery agreement is a negotiated charter which reflects the commitment of key partners involved in the direct delivery process to working together to undertake activities effectively and on time to produce the mutually agreed-upon outputs which will in turn contribute to achieving the outcome.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is responsible for Outcome 9: A Responsive, Accountable, Effective and Efficient Local Government System. At National Level, President Jacob Zuma has signed a performance agreement with the Minister for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs has, Mr Sicelo Shiceka. The Minister has in turn signed service delivery agreements with all 9 Members of the Executive Councils for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in each province and all Executive Mayors.

MEC Norman Mokoena will sign service delivery agreements with all Executive Mayors in the province. These service delivery agreements will outline the details of what will actually happen in each local space. It will also ensure that there is stricter accountability for all the plans and that delivery takes place. MEC Mokoena says these delivery agreements talk to the issues that have been raised by the communities in the different municipal areas. “We will do things differently in Local Government, this delivery agreements have identified series of progressive intergovernmental initiatives to turn the tide in local government towards 2014” said Mokoena.
