Dreams for the elderly people came true in Ventersdorp
Dreams for the elderly people came true following the official handing over of houses in Tshing Township near Ventersdorp by MEC responsible for local government and human settlements Motlalepula Rosho.
Three elderly people, Ntsollwane Mmako Martha (80), Thomas Oupa Sokane (85) and Mosotho Thomas Dihemo (85) were tearful and delighted when they received the keys for their homes. The appreciation was all over their face and emphasized that they had been waiting for a long time without losing hope. “we are going to stay in our homes with dignity and we thank God Almighty, the government and the contractor, Chiefton Naise for job well done”, said the elders.
During the official handover, MEC Rosho got thrilled and did hesitate to express her feeling and charged that "Provision of human settlements, in particular houses is an issue very close to my heart as it restores dignity to ordinary citizens and improves their quality of life. Our position as provincial government is not just building houses, but rather implement integrated human settlements with social amenities”
The department initiated a project which consisted of 404 Breaking New Ground at an amount of 52 million which 212 got completed and was officially handed over to the beneficiaries on Monday. The outstanding houses will be completed soon.
A Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Infrastructure at the JB Marks Municipality Ms Martha Mojahi also expressed her excitement “Today was a fantastic experience to see the concrete results - the tears of joy when we handed over those keys to the elderly people. It brings hope and happiness to people who lost hope of a better, secure, and dignified life. The keys open up a variety of avenues to a better future. “
Rosho further emphasised that new homeowners must understand the value of their homes and should never sell them. “ The government will continue to identify elders and assist them we know that we will never be able to give homes to anyone who needs it, but our responsibility as government and leaders is to identify the most vulnerable in our society and prioritise them, I am extremely pleased that the beneficiaries will now have a place that they can call home with pride. To those who have not yet benefited, I urge you to be patient. We are working on delivering more homes,"
