MEC Mohono applauds a youth in agriculture for winning the Big Break Legacy show

The MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ms Desbo Mohono says the announcement on Saturday, 9 November of Mr Sanele Makinane as the winner of Season 2 of The Big Break Legacy reality TV show,  and winning R5 million, is a living testimony of what the youth in agriculture in the province are capable of.

The 22-year old Makinane who is a member of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and an executive member of Black African Young Farmers (BAYOFA), has been active in the agriculture sector and was instrumental during the Provincial Youth Development Symposium organised by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in partnership with youth in agriculture organisations.

Makinane was also early this year nominated to represent the province and the country at the 9th CAADP Partnership Platform meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The R5 million won by Makinane will be an investment into the ICT business he and other young people in Klerksdorp, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District have conceptualised, Mzanzi Digital, which aims at creating participation by previously disadvantaged communities in the development of ICT.

“We are, in the agriculture sector, proud to be associated with young people like Sanele, whose innovative thinking and success-driven approach has been tasted in the province. We have no doubt in our minds that he deserves this accomplishment,” said MEC Mohono who encouraged Makinane to enthusiastically take their business forward, and continue to place the North West province on the national map.

Makinane’s advice to young people is “Innovators don't compete with ideas. They compete with time. So you should never hesitate to make hay whilst the sun shines. The world is that big to accommodate all of our dreams and aspirations claim your space.”

The Big Break Legacy show aims to start a global revolution of entrepreneurs that build new enterprises which are innovative, exciting, sustainable and, most importantly, contribute meaningfully towards the social development of communities.
