MEC Galaletsang Gaolaolwe visits Makgobistad primary school on first day of school year

As millions of pupils laced their shoes in preparation for their first day at school for the 2018 school year, MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe handed over shoes to disadvantaged learners from rural primary schools near Mahikeng, last week.

The purpose of the visits was to assess the readiness of schools as they start their school year and to engage with the learners and teachers as well as looking into challenges faced and opportunities available for the schools. The main message of the day was conveyed to the learners themselves was, “don’t forget that education is a key to everything you need to utilise and use wisely. Think about what you want to do when you finish school and work along that dream of yours. Push hard and never give up, education is the only thing that will free us of poverty”, explained MEC Gaolaolwe.

One of the teachers, Boitshoko Nkgase expressed concern about grade one learners who are forced to share one small table due to lack of proper furniture.

When she learnt about an epileptic learner who has to sit on backless chair, MEC Gaolaolwe vowed to engage with the Department of Education and Sport Development to alert them about the situation at the school.
