MEC Collen Maine pledges support to Ventersdorp Local Municipality

Ventersdorp will get back on track, MEC Maine

The MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Collen Maine wishes to assure the residents of Bokone Bophirima that the department will continue to execute its constitutional mandate of providing the necessary support to Ventersdorp Local Municipality, such that the municipality is able to render even basic services to its communities.

MEC Maine said the department has seconded senior managers from the provincial government to act as Municipal Manager and Administrator, respectively, to amongst others:

  • Improve service delivery, prioritising water and sanitation services
    Stabilise and improve administration within the municipality
  • Financial management: improving the financial controls in the municipality, expenditure management, procurement processes, as well as addressing Auditor General’s reports
  • Analysis and implementation of past and current investigations, commissions of enquiry, and forensic audits, this should include taking decisive action against implicated individuals
  • Attend to labour matters in the municipality
  • Facilitate the improvement of governance within council

MEC Maine said to date, both integrated development plan (IDP) and budget for 2015/2016 have been tabled before council, annual oversight report for 2013/2014 is ready for tabling, an audit committee has been established although it is a shared with Dr Kenneth Kaunda district municipality, senior municipal officials have been able to sign performance agreements and the Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) has already been approved for implementation.

He indicated that a number of infrastructure projects have been earmarked for the current financial such as storm water drainage systems, development of internal roads, community, high mast lights, installation of bulk water supply connection. “Communities of Ventersdorp, Tshing, Makweteng, Doornkop, Boikhutsong, Appeldraai, Joko will benefit from these infrastructure projects’’, said MEC Maine.
