Mathale welcomes International Athletics Federation (IAAF) announcement on Caster Semenya

Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale has welcomed the acceptance of the 800 metre sensation Caster Semenya back into competitive athletics by the International Athletics Federation.

As the government of Limpopo, we have always rallied behind Semenya when she was put on trial by those questioning her gender. We will continue to support Semenya as she goes back to compete on the track.

The people of Limpopo have now been vindicated as they have courageously asserted that Caster was a woman and rejected any doubt about that.

The acceptance of Semenya back on the track will contribute positively towards the development of athletics and sports in Limpopo, as she will serve as an ambassador and a role model to other young people in the province who because of poverty and other forms of discrimination would not have had courage to participate in athletics and sports.

Caster must draw inspiration and courage out of support the people of Limpopo and the whole country have unequivocally given her. We would also like to assure her of our undivided support and confidence at all times.
