Limpopo Youth Commission congratulates young aspirant farmer of the year 2010

The Limpopo Youth Commission has commended the leadership of Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development (YARD) for the continuous work they do in ensuring that young people take part in agricultural activities and contribute to the main stream economy. The two days youth conference which is taking place at Oasis Lodge in Polokwane under the theme: ‘Youth working together to build a united country for all’ has created a platform for young farmers to share experiences amongst themselves and strategies on how to contribute positively in addressing hunger and food security broadly.

The agricultural sector contributes immensely in responding to parts of the Millennium Development Goals, that of reducing hunger by 2014, the sector also contributes towards rural development which is a priority of government. As Youth Commission we would like to congratulate all young people who continue to be active in the agricultural sector. This is important because farming contributes enormously in reducing unemployment, hunger and poverty. We also want to salute all young people who have received awards in the following categories

  • top producer national / exports - (Maseka Farming Projects )
  • top producer for household consumption - (Jonas Mathebula)
  • top producer Informal markets - (Tshumedi Matlapeke)
  • top primary school in agriculture - Matswidikanye Primary School
  • top secondary schools in agriculture – Helen Franz Secondary School.

The Youth Commission salutes them because they have inspired other young people in the Province to realise the importance and how it can create opportunities for them.

We are calling on them to keep up the good work and continue to invest and expand their expertise to other young people. Young people should always remember that rural development cannot be attained unless we have a booming agricultural sector with young people at the centre of its development.
