Limpopo Government launches 2023 Limpopo Youth Month Programme

Limpopo Government continues its commitment towards youth emancipation

The Limpopo Provincial Government remains steadfast in its commitment to youth emancipation and economic empowerment. The 2023 Limpopo Youth Month Programme was launched at Schoonord, Sekhukhune District on 01 June 2023, making Limpopo the first province to launch this programme with the aim of increasing youth participation in various opportunities throughout June.

At the launch, the MEC for Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Mr. Basikopo Makamu, emphasised that youth development and mainstreaming should not only be emphasised in June but should be a year-round affair. He reassured the youth that all levels of the government would continue to provide different resources and opportunities to support them in their endeavours. Furthermore, there is monthly monitoring of government spending per department, especially targeting the 30% target set aside for youth. The results have been satisfactory thus far, and efforts to solidify the commitment will continue.

Mr. Khomotso Mangoale, who represented the South African Youth Council Limpopo, commended the province for establishing the Limpopo Youth Fund to assist young people in realising their business aspirations. However, he emphasised that the government needs to act faster to improve the lives of youth and be at the forefront of economic beneficiation opportunities.

In her remarks, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Maleke Mokganyetji, urged youth to take advantage of the benefits of free education and play a role in economic emancipation, while supporting efforts to fight drug and substance abuse.

The Youth Month Programme activities will be implemented across all districts and local municipalities through seminars, workshops, dialogues and other activities to ensure maximum participation in the province's economy.

Youth are encouraged to visit www.limpopo.gov.za and all provincial social platforms for a comprehensive programme that unfolds throughout the province.
