Limpopo Government commend Traffic officers for intercepting a truck with 87 illegal Malawian nationals

The Limpopo Government is pleased with the interception of a truck that was transporting 87 illegal Malawian Nationals at Polokwane Control Centre yesterday in the early hours. The Truck was spotted by Traffic Officers after it did not adhere to traffic sign leading to the Polokwane Traffic Centre.

It is reported that the officers then pulled off the truck and upon inspecting it, they discovered 87 illegal immigrants from Malawi who were allegedly traveling to Durban. The truck was impounded and the Police were called to arrest the 50 year old truck driver and the Malawian nationals.

The driver will appear before the Polokwane High Court for bribery, violation of immigration laws and possible additional criminal charges. He will appear before the Polokwane High Court on Monday.

According to MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Makoma Makhurupetje the Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that all 87 immigrants are undocumented. This means that they will also be facing charges of violating immigration laws. As Limpopo Government, we have full confidence in the justice system that they will deal with this matter accordingly without fear or favour and we maintain that Limpopo is not a crime zone.
